July School Holidays: Warami Mittigar Walk with Aunty Leanne

As part of our July School Holiday and NAIDOC Week program we invite you to join us for this walk along the river with Aunty Leanne.  

The Dharug people are Burramatta’s/Parramatta’s first people and the traditional custodians of this land. Parramatta’s name comes from their word “Baramada”, meaning “the place of eels.

This easy walk, along the river and in beautiful Burramatta/Parramatta Park, is a wonderful opportunity to spend time on country with Dharug traditional custodian, Aunty Leanne and learning about connections to land, plant uses, tools, hunting and other aspects of Dharug culture.

Monday 3 July 2023 12-2pm

Friday 7 July 2023 12-2pm

Important information:

Duration: 2 hours

This workshop is open to families, carers and young people aged 5-13years

The route is partly along unfenced waterways and shared pathways.  Parents and carers must accompany children for the duration of the walk.
Location: Please arrive at the PHIVE Foyer Information Counter 10 minutes prior to commencement of tour, bring water/hat and wear comfortable shoes.

The walk is free however registrations are essential  
In the case of wet weather an adapted program will go ahead in the Level 3 Makerspace

About Aunty Leanne

Auntie Leanne King, a proud Dharug woman and founder of Wollombi Aboriginal Cultural Experiences, has been learning cultural lore for over 30 years. Auntie Leanne believes that the stories she shares have resonance in today’s world, and that helping people connect with Country can be deeply nurturing. Auntie Leanne’s message is of empowering inclusion; how everyone, of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs can grow up within Culture.
