Western Terrace: Gathering Before the Light

Come together with us for an evening of creativity, connection, and reflection with An.Other Collective.

Come together with us for an evening of creativity, connection, and reflection with An.Other Collective. Ramadan is often seen as a month centred around food and restriction. But for Muslims all around the world, it’s also a time dedicated to deepening faith and community bonds.

Join us as we prepare our hearts for Ramadan in a Gathering Before the Light. Set your intentions for the month ahead and create your own personalised prayer mat, or a piece of textile with the intention of reflection, mindfulness, or grounding—a marker of connection and focus in your personal practice. As we gather, we’ll share a wholesome meal by Lawan Catering and Little Jerusalem, celebrating the vibrant and eclectic cultures that make up our community.

Meet the Artists

An.Other Collective is a community of Muslim female makers, artists, and designers spanning from Sydney to Melbourne. The collective is an open platform that gathers and weaves the diverse perspectives of individuals and communities to dissolve colonial barriers and reductive misconceptions on matters associated with faith, politics, identity, art and culture.

Lawan Catering is a homemade event catering & mealbox service run by Batak & Jawa mother of two residing on Bidjigal Land. It is food inspired by mothers & aunties gathered in home kitchens and recipes with no measurements passed on via WhatsApp messages. Family & community is at the heart of Lawan Catering, where homemade Indonesian food is cooked with pure love and joy.

At Little Jerusalem, we're passionate about Middle Eastern cuisine. Our mission is to showcase authentic flavors, going beyond the popular dishes to explore the rich tapestry of often unnoticed flavors. Our menu includes diverse options, from delectable street food to beloved homemade favorites, offering a genuine culinary experience enjoyed by real people in the Middle East for centuries.

As a business rooted in Palestinian heritage, food holds a deep significance for us—it’s a vital part of our culture, history, and identity. Through our meals, we aim to share the warmth, tradition, and stories of our Palestinian background with every bite.

The Western Terrace is a series of creative gatherings, performances and workshops taking place underneath the golden hour, as the sun sets, facing West, thinking West. Imagining the Western Terrace as an extension of their own homes, gardens and balconies, the series features artists, authors, filmmakers, musicians and community sharing domestic ritual collectively.
