Western Terrace: Threads Exhibition

Artwork with crochet hook

Join us for an exhibition of handmade artworks by the Fabric Connections Community and creative play curated by Linda Brescia in celebration of International Women's Day. Threads is an invitation to rethink the importance of what we do, going back to the idea that the invention of string 120 000 years ago changed the history of humanity.

For almost two years, the Fabric Connections community have been meeting on Tuesday mornings. Guided by Linda Brescia, the group materialise memory and knowledge sharing creative and cultural textile processes with each other.  In celebration of International Women's Day, Threads is an opportunity to experience the playful spirit of the group through their artworks.

Throughout the night, Anney Bounpraseuth will be running a beginner friendly workshop. You will learn how to crochet a simple, single chain, choosing from wools and yarns of various textures, thicknesses, and colours. As your chain grows, so will your confidence and creativity! Once your desired chain length is complete, you can transform it into a number of decorative, bow shaped wearables- a pin, belt, neck tie, a pair of earrings, and much more.

Light refreshments will be served.

When: Wednesday 12 March, 5:30pm - 7:30pm

Where: Level 3, Western Terrace

Registration: Spaces are limited with some seats and standing room. Registration is essential. As this is an outdoor venue, please dress accordingly. For access requirements please contact PHIVEtickets@cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au

Linda Brescia is a Western Sydney-based artist who investigates the banalities and complexities of everyday life experiences and rituals through painting, photography, sculpture and performance. Her practice explores dynamics around visibility and invisibility, masking, care and self-assertion.

Anney Bounpraseuth has been featured on ABC TV and iView, ABC Radio National, FBI Radio’s Canvas program, and in Frankie Magazine and The International Cultic Studies Association journal. Since 2001 she has exhibited in galleries across NSW with solo shows at Fairfield City Museum and Art Gallery and Bankstown Arts Centre, with work held in local and international private collections.

The Western Terrace is a series of creative gatherings, performances and workshops taking place underneath the golden hour, as the sun sets, facing West, thinking West. Imagining the Western Terrace as an extension of their own homes, gardens and balconies, the series features artists, authors, filmmakers, musicians and community sharing domestic ritual collectively.
