Join award-winning artist Cameron Stead for a watercolour workshop series at PHIVE, Parramatta. Over the course of six weeks you will be guided through experimental, technical and conceptual processes using watercolour paint, ink and graphite, to create still life, landscape and abstract artworks. During this program you will learn the foundations of watercolour painting and work with a variety of media to develop skills in colour-mixing, composition, observation and creative thinking.
This workshop series is designed to be a supportive, safe and playful learning environment, accessible to people of all skill levels. All of the art-making materials required for this program are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own materials, if you wish.
An overview of the workshop series is as follows:
Week 1: Watercolour introduction, techniques and skill life drawing
Week 2: Ink introduction, experimentation and line drawing
Week 3: Gestural ink and watercolour artworks
Week 4: Observation of form and tone with water-soluble graphite
Week 5: Pattern, repetition and composition using a variety of media
Week 6: Self-guided projects using skills and techniques learnt throughout the program
Best suited for ages 18+

About Cam:
Cameron Stead is an interdisciplinary artist based on Gadigal Country. Stead’s practice spans painting, performance, installation and fibre art, and uses colour and materiality in a broad range of processes to investigate ideas of the self in public and private spaces, as well as dualities of the lived experience. Stead is the 2017 winner of the Kilgour Prize and a 2020-21 Waverly Studios Artist in Residence
