Welcome to the 2025 City of Parramatta "Parra-Pets-Matta" subsidised desexing program!
In conjunction with our supporting Vets, City of Parramatta provides a subsidised desexing program are open from 03/06/25 - 03/07/25 for our residents to promote responsible pet ownership by reducing unwanted litters and to assist with the rising cost of living.
To qualify for our program, you must satisfy the following criteria:
- You reside within the City of Parramatta Council Local Government Area (Proof of residency required)
- You have a Dog or Cat that is of the appropriate age to be desexed
- You are not a Breeder
- You have access to transport to drop off and pick up your pet from a nominated Vet clinic (This could be within or slightly outside of the City of Parramatta Local Government Area)
- Your Pet is in good health
- Submit one application per animal
- You are able to submit multiple applications however, vouchers are limited and will be distributed fairly amongst applicants.
- Multiple vouchers may not be issued due to availability
- You understand that although chances are low, every medical procedure comes with risks and neither City of Parramatta Council or the nominated Vet Clinic conducting the procedure are liable for complications that may arise from the procedure.
In addition, the program is conducted in the below manner:
- The resident submits an application to participate in our desexing program below and provide accurate information, as required (Any false or misleading information will disqualify you from the program)
- If successful in your application, you will be issued with a subsidised desexing voucher which is to be redeemed by the nominated Vet Clinic listed
- The resident then contacts the nominated clinic to schedule their Pet's procedure
- The Vet Clinic has sole discretion over when the procedure can be conducted
- The Vet Clinic may request an initial consultation with you and your pet to assess eligibility of desexing
- Once the Vet is satisfied to proceed, the procedure will be conducted at an agreed date and time
- The resident is to present their subsidised desexing voucher to their nominated Vet and the resident is then required to pay their subsided cost of desexing directly to the Vet Clinic and Council with cover the remaining cost listed on the voucher
- If your Pet presents or requires additional consultation, procedures, medications or any other medical assistance before, during or after the procedure, the resident is required to cover those costs. No additional funding will be provided by Council.
- Free microchipping is also included with your subsidised desexing voucher
- Council reserves the right to revoke any voucher, at any time

Why desex pets?
(Back to top)- Desexed pets live longer healthier lives, and are less prone to wander, fight, be anti-social and it reduces the risk of certain cancers.
- Desexing your pet helps to reduce pet overpopulation and reduces the amount of pets that are euthanised due to lack of suitable homes.
- Undesexed domestic cats who are allowed to roam, add to stray cat population which can have a negative impact on wildlife.
- Cats can become pregnant at just 4 months old, and dogs can become pregnant at 5 months so early desexing is important.
- One undesexed female cat can produce 420,000 kittens over 7 years!**
- Life-time registration fees are heavily subsidized for desexed animals.
