Have your say on the Duck River Nature Trail Stage 2 – Silverwater Streets

From Tuesday 11 February City of Parramatta will be asking residents and businesses to provide feedback on concept designs for Duck River Nature Trail Stage 2. The four-week community consultation closes 5pm Tuesday 18 March 2025.

Duck River Nature Trail

The Duck River Nature Trail is a three-stage (28.5M Western Sydney Infrastructure Grant) project to be delivered over the next four years. Its goal is to create more than 4.5km of boardwalks, bridges, pedestrian and cyclist paths, allowing people to walk and ride safely along both sides of the river, and enjoy improved foreshore environments.

The fully-accessible trail will connect Silverwater to Camellia, upgrade Silverwater Park and improve neighbouring streets.

Stage 1 (Silverwater Park) in August/September last year, the community was invited to provide feedback on the concept designs for Duck River Stage 1. This project will start construction in early-March.

Stage 2 (Silverwater Streets) linking Stage 1 and Stage 3 (Duck River). Stage 2 travels through largely industrial areas and some residential areas using the local street network to provide paths where creating paths alongside Duck River is not possible.

Duck River Stage 2

New footpaths, shared paths and bike paths are proposed on seven (7) local streets, with changes to traffic flow and reductions in on-street parking.

The project will deliver, street improvements including:

  • raised priority crossings for pedestrians and cyclists on Blaxland Street, River Street, and Holker Street
  • safer and more comfortable separated pedestrian and cyclist paths
  • shared paths where space is more limited
  • additional street planting – with 16 smaller trees removed and 60 advanced native trees to be planted.
  • more street lighting.

To deliver this important community infrastructure project, there are two options to consider in relation to reductions in on-street parking:

  • Option one removes on-street parking on one side of the street in five streets, removing 61 spaces (from a total of 287) between Holker Street and Clyde Street.

  • Option two makes Picken Street southbound only, and Blaxland Street eastbound only, keeping parking on both sides. Making both streets one-way minimises the parking reduction to approximately 41 spaces (from a total of 287).
