Parramatta’s unique version of ‘Shark Tank’ returns next week with the annual Pitch for Good program inviting social entrepreneurs and local charities the chance to pitch their projects and boost awareness while making a positive community impact.
The program, in its sixth year, provides five passionate organisations the opportunity to pitch and raise funds for their projects.
Audience members can back the initiative that resonates with them by donating the value of their $30 ticket at a charity event held at Parramatta Town Hall on Tuesday 3 September from 6-9pm.
Donations will double with Council matching the $30 ticket value to give the projects an extra boost.
City of Parramatta chief executive Gail Connolly PSM said this is an opportunity to support the projects making a difference in the community.
“This is Parramatta’s version of ‘Shark Tank’, where we empower our community to get involved and back the projects they care about,” Ms Connolly said.
“All funds from ticket sales will go to the five projects and Council will match the amount dollar for dollar to help boost these wonderful initiatives.
“A small donation can make a huge impact and this year’s projects are calling for your support.”
This year’s five successful participants in the Pitch for Good program include:
- Success Works Partners – a social enterprise helping break down employment barriers for women with criminal records through employer engagement and training
- Collective Leisure – a social enterprise providing programs to improve wellbeing, physical and mental health for those most in need
- Edu-fy – a social enterprise to help make learning and education equitable for everyone
- House of Welcome – a Western Sydney project offering services as transitional housing, casework, financial assistance, material and medical aid, employment and mentoring support to refugees
- St. Merkorious Charity – a charity serving those in need by collecting, preparing, cooking and distributing food to address food insecurity in the community
Catering at the event is organised by The Freedom Hub, who pitched at last year’s Pitch for Good event and successfully raised funds to open their Survivor School for rehabilitation, set to open in Parramatta later this year.
The Freedom Hub is a not-for-profit organisation helping victims of modern slavery in Australia to rebuild their lives.
The annual event is held in partnership with StartSomeGood, a social enterprise which supports early stage social entrepreneurs to launch and grow their impact initiatives.
