People-first approach to employee experience a winner for Parramatta

City of Parramatta’s people-first approach to employee experience has been recognised as the best in the industry after winning the NSW Local Government Professionals Excellence Awards for the People, Workplace, Wellbeing category.

The award recognises Council’s People Connect HR systems transformation, a four-year project completed in 2024.

The project involved an overhaul of existing human resource applications and a move to a cloud-based solution. Since its launch, almost two-thirds of staff have found the platform easy to use for a wide range of people related activities.

Chief Executive Officer Gail Connolly PSM said the award reflects all the hard work involved from staff and teams to make Council an excellent place to work.

“A lot of hard work goes into delivering projects and exceptional service to our community every day and this is credit to the 1500 staff across Council,” Ms Connolly said.

“I congratulate the teams and staff for all their hard work, this has resulted in Parramatta being recognised as an employer of choice within our community.”

Council’s 2023 Health and Wellbeing Action Plan was also a finalist in the same category, recognising Council’s commitment to exploring new initiatives and programs to foster positive mental, social and physical health.

“I am very proud of our staff and their contribution in making City of Parramatta a positive and healthy workplace,’ Ms Connolly said.

“This award cements our approach of recognising the importance of having a work environment that is purpose-led to ensure long-term benefits to staff and our community.”
