Paper Planet centre of bumper Spring holiday program

Keeping the kids entertained has never been easier with City of Parramatta’s Spring school holidays program kicking off next month.

From entering a gigantic cardboard forest as part of the captivating Paper Planet at PHIVE to creative workshops at Parramatta Artists Studios and getting out on the field with Council’s Active Parramatta program, there is something for children of all ages.

City of Parramatta chief executive officer Gail Connolly PSM said it is important to provide activities for children and support parents and carers during the holidays.

“Our teams work hard each and every year to deliver a jam-packed school holiday program that caters to kids with different interests and abilities,” Ms Connolly said.

“We recognise that not all families can afford to go away on a big holiday each school break and this program not only gets the kids out of the house, it’s a real boredom buster.”

Paper Planet sees theatre and play merge in a gigantic cardboard forest made with only paper, sticky tape and an imagination. It takes place in a child-led and deeply engaging environment for everyone from the quiet achievers to those wanting to interact with performers and other children ages 13 years and under.

Riverside Theatres is again hosting performances as part of this year’s Spot On Children’s Festival from 28 September – 20 October, including Imagine Live, The Librarian and Bonnie’s Karaoke Disco Party.

Parramatta Artists Studios is opening its doors for two special workshops. Transforming Trinkets is for children 12 years and over to create wearable art from found objects with a three-hour jewellery making workshop from artists Celine Cheung and M. Sunflower. Duck River World is for younger children (ages 5-12) to make their own aquatic diorama with artist Linda Brescia based on Duck River.

For those keen to get out and enjoy the great outdoors and battle it out on the field, Active Parramatta is hosting an array of sports activities including rugby league, jiu jitsu, CrossFit, pickleball and cricket.

A full list of school holiday activities and how to book can be found online by visiting PHIVE, Riverside Theatres and City of Parramatta Libraries, Bookable or Active Parramatta websites.
