City of Parramatta is calling on the community to have their say on the draft 2024/25 budget and Delivery Program and Operational Plan (DPOP).
The draft $534 million budget includes the completion of an estimated $195 million capital works program and seeks to deliver a $6 million operating surplus for Council. Residential rate payers will receive a $50 one-off rebate towards the cost of the Domestic Waste Charge as part of the proposed budget.
Each year, Council’s 2022-26 DPOP sets out a plan and budget that focuses on key capital works projects and programs to meet the community’s needs. The next financial year marks the third year of a four-year plan with key major projects including the redevelopment of Riverside Theatres, Lake Parramatta swimming upgrades, Ermington Foreshore Stage 3, Granville Town Square and Carter Street Precinct Community Centre.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Pierre Esber said it’s important the community has a say about the future of its City.
“This is a balanced budget that takes into account the need for investment in services and projects for our business and resident ratepayers,” Cr Esber said.
“Our DPOP is responsible for helping to deliver game changing projects in the City, such as the redevelopment of Riverside Theatres and a new community recycling centre.
“It is about investing in the services and initiatives we need now to make Parramatta the best place to live, work and run a business.”
Part of the Plan includes investigating new, exciting and economically responsible ways to activate the section of Parramatta River foreshore between Church Street and the Parramatta Ferry Wharf at Charles Street Square, as well as an updated waste strategy.
The DPOP includes more funding for:
- Improving footpaths and cycleways
- Upgrading our playgrounds and public open spaces
- Environmental initiatives such as a new FOGO service
- Delivery of a new Community Recycling Facility
“Our community values environmental initiatives including the much-anticipated rollout of a new food and garden organics service later this year,” Cr Esber said.
The draft Budget 2024/25 and draft Delivery Program and Operational Plan 2022-26 are on public exhibition along with the proposed rating structure and draft Fees & Charges 2024/25 until 5pm on Wednesday 22 May. Visit the Participate Parramatta website to have your say.
