City of Parramatta is putting its focus on the gift of giving this Christmas launching 12 days of charitable initiatives to support those in need.
The City’s 12 Days of Christmas Charity program kicked off last night with the lighting of the Christmas tree in Parramatta Square.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Pierre Esber, who helped light the 16-metre tree, said the rising cost of living was making life tough for many people this Christmas.
“One of the great things about our community is how we come together to support each other,” Cr Esber said.
“This initiative is about helping the organisations who help so many in our City and encouraging locals to consider how they too can give a helping hand.
“I’m very proud of charities like the Parramatta Women’s Shelter, Parramatta Mission, Ronald McDonald House Great Western Sydney, Turbans 4 Australia, High Street Youth Health Service, Karabi Community Development Services and Pathways Community Church for their work in assisting community members across our City, which is why we’re supporting these organisations.”
As part of the program, the Lord Mayor, fellow Councillors and City of Parramatta staff will visit local charities and community groups to help serve food, assist with packing and distributing food hampers and contribute to the festive cheer by gifting toys.
There are many ways to make a positive impact this Christmas – here’s how you can help:
- Christmas Giving Trees – Support Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney by making a donation at 11 sites across the LGA from December 4-21
- Good Gift Market – Shop for a Christmas gift from unique businesses and help make a positive difference in the community at the market from 2-8pm on December 7, Centenary Square
Parramatta has a bumper Christmas program throughout December for all ages to join in on the festive fun. Festive decorations, live music and performances, roving entertainment and activities will bring Parramatta Square to life until December 23.
Every Saturday from December 2 to 16, Phillip Lane will light up at night for hours of dancing and family fun with a designated dance space, face painting, balloon twisting, outdoor seating and plenty of food.
