Get your skates on – summer holiday fun is nearly here

For the first time ever, PHIVE will come alive as a roller skating rink – one of more than 40 events and activities to keep the kids entertained in the City of Parramatta these summer school holidays.

Whether you’re a first-time skater or a seasoned pro, the City’s civic and cultural hub’s basement level will be transformed, offering a variety of roller-skating sessions to suit all ages and skill levels. Roller and inline skates will be provided for you to take a lesson, glide with friends or groove to DJ and live music sessions at PHIVE from 3-25 January 2025.

When the skates are off, the City will be bursting with other fun activities from workshops and circus shows to sewing Christmas stockings or making pop art pizza pillows at Parramatta Artists Studios – there’s something in store for everyone.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said Parramatta is the place to be for families this summer.

“School holidays can be a tricky time for parents, especially with the current cost of living pressures, which is why we’re offering memorable experiences for families to enjoy without breaking the bank,” Cr Zaiter said.

“From tots to teens to adults, the City of Parramatta is thrilled to offer a wide range of family-friendly events, making it easy for parents to entertain the kids in our own backyard.”

Highlights of the summer school holiday program include:

  • Riverside Theatres hosting performances as part of the summer school holiday program, including The Box Show; an imaginative music-in education performance combining drumming, dance, theatre and comedy. Sydney Festival presenting the return of Animal by Cirque Alfonse; a surreal circus experience for all ages as well as Sydney Festival’s BullyBully; a hilarious musical about childish grown-ups.
  • Celebrate the joy of reading with the Summer Reading Holiday Program where children 16 years and under can escape into a world of imagination.
  • Various events at local libraries; including the action-packed Tina Green Circus Show, sewing and decorating your own felt Christmas stocking and animal workshops brought to you by Taronga Zoomobile.
  • Active Parramatta running physical and educational programs and workshops including frisbee, gymnastics, skateboarding, netball, athletics, line dancing, mums n bubs, silent disco, tennis, taekwondo and much more.
  • Parramatta Artists Studios in Granville hosting a playful and educational art workshop on Tuesday 21 January 2025, teaching kids how to make their own plush pillow with a delicious twist.
