First Nations musicians star at the 2024 Ngana Birrung festival

Western Sydney will come alive with the sights and sounds of some of the country’s biggest emerging First Nations musicians and hip-hop artists with the return of Ngana Birrung.

Led by City of Parramatta, this stand-out music festival puts some of Australia’s most exciting talent centre stage over three nights in Parramatta, Penrith and Campbelltown, including performances from the all-female First Nations lineup of Kaiit, Miss Kaninna and Kootsie Don.

Due to its popularity, a brand-new Parrachute Music Festival has been added to the Ngana Birrung event in Parramatta and will take place over four nights. It will combine the best First Nations artists with collectives The Area (Thursday, 21 March), Bodega Collective (Friday, 22 March) and Tiffi (Sunday, 24 March) playing in front of Parramatta Town Hall in Parramatta Square.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Pierre Esber said he’s excited about the return of the festival.

“Ngana Birrung is our chance to say Warami, or welcome, to everyone, particularly our young generation; an invitation to have fun and enjoy some of the best First Nations talent on stage right here in the heart of Greater Sydney,” Cr Esber said.

“Parramatta is home to one of the largest and safest night-time economies in NSW, receiving Purple Flag accreditation in May last year – Ngana Birrung provides a great opportunity to experience all our City has to offer.”

Ngana Birrung is presented by City of Parramatta in association with Penrith City Council and Campbelltown City Council. The event series is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW and is open to all ages.
