The City of Parramatta hold a vast collection of cultural assets that document and illustrate Parramatta’s rich history.

We care for these collections on behalf of the community – preserving and sharing the history and heritage of Parramatta’s Local Government Area.

Council Heritage Archives

Parramatta’s Council Archives is one of the most complete municipal archives in New South Wales dating back to 1844. Our Council Archives collection is an asset and holds unique records that cannot be found anywhere else – this includes original copies of minute books, letters, documents, photographs, maps, plans, audio visual material and more.

Community Heritage Archives

This collection comprises records created or gathered by individuals and community groups that relate to the social history and development of the Parramatta LGA dating back to the 1880’s. The material includes administrative records, personal papers, ephemera, films, photographs, glass plate negatives and born digital material.

Cultural Collections

This collection expresses the history and heritage of the Parramatta LGA through objects and artefacts categorised as culturally and socially significant, civic and ceremonial, archaeology and artworks.
