The final piece of the Charles Street Square upgrade has been installed with residents and visitors now able to enjoy a 30-minute multi-layered animated video artwork every evening.
The artwork, produced by renowned artist Craig Walsh, will screen onto the face of the escapement across the river from Parramatta Quay (ferry wharf). The projection ‘canvas’ is approximately 30m long and 10m high.
The public art project acknowledges the continuing presence of First Nations people in Parramatta and our shared journey towards respect and reconciliation.
Craig consulted with community and business, heritage, archaeological and ecological teams, and Dharug Cultural Custodians to create a story of human interaction with the land and waters over time.
The artwork (visual only, no sound) will be on a loop and screens between 8pm to 11pm each day in summer (Daylight Savings Time) and between 6pm and 9pm during winter (Eastern Standard Time).
The artwork is best viewed from Charles Street Square.
Admission is free.
