Climate Active carbon neutral certification

City of Parramatta is the first council in Western Sydney and one of three in NSW to achieve Climate Active carbon neutral certification. It is also the first council in Australia to obtain carbon neutral certification for services in the public domain of Parramatta Square. The council has committed to reducing carbon emissions by 60% by 2038.

Purple Flag Accreditation

Parramatta achieved Purple Flag accreditation in May 2023. Purple Flag is an international initiative, that demonstrates the city’s CBD meets international standards of excellence in night-time vibrancy, diversity and safety. 

Purple Flag is a program that recognises night -time hubs that are safe, accessible, and diverse, promoting a vibrant after-dark experience for all. 
Parramatta’s CBD is the first Western Sydney location, to earn the Purple Flag accreditation and only the second in Australia.

Local Government Week Awards - 2021 Parramatta Lanes

Council's 2021 Parramatta Lanes event received the RH Dougherty Award for Innovation in Special Events at the Local Government Week Awards in August 2022. This recognition acknowledges the council's creative adaptation of the event post-lockdown.

Local Government NSW's Excellence in the Environment Awards

Electric Vehicles: Driving a Sustainable Future program won the Innovation in Planning, Policies, and Decision Making category in December 2022.

Smart LED Streetlighting Project secured the Towards Net Zero Emissions category in December 2022. This project represents the largest smart and LED energy efficiency streetlighting upgrade in NSW.

NSW Local Government Excellence Awards - Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Strategy

We Belong: Council's Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, "We Belong," won the 2023 NSW Local Government Excellence Award for Organisational Diversity and Inclusion. It was also a finalist in the 2023 HRD Awards, highlighting the council's commitment to attracting, developing, and retaining diverse talent while fostering inclusivity.

Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue's Boomtown! 2022 Property & Infrastructure Awards

PHIVE: City of Parramatta's PHIVE, a community, cultural, and civic center, received the Project of the Year and Community Project awards. These awards recognize outstanding new community projects across Western Sydney, showcasing excellence in infrastructure, sustainability, and tourism.

Mainstreet Australia Award - Phillip Lane Activation Project

Council's Phillip Lane Activation Project won the Best Main Street Streetscape and Design category at the Mainstreet Australia Awards in May 2023.

Minister's Awards for Women in Local Government - Jennifer Concato and Grace Elizabeth Haydon

Jennifer Concato, Executive Director City Planning and Design, received the Champion of Change Award - Metro, while Grace Elizabeth Haydon, Senior Project Officer, Major Projects and Precincts, received the Young Achiever's Award - Metro. These awards celebrate the contributions of women in local government in NSW and encourage female leadership in the field.

Place Leaders Awards Asia Pacific - Parramatta Place Plan

Council's Parramatta Place Plan won the Place Governance category at the 2022 Place Leaders Awards. The plan showcases an innovative approach to place governance, delivering dynamic, adaptive, and integrated outcomes for Parramatta.

Parramatta River Catchment Group was highly commended in the Communications, Education & Empowerment category in the Local Government NSW Excellence in the Environment Awards 2021

IPWEA NSW & ACT: Engineering Excellence Award (Projects >$5m) Parramatta Escarpment Boardwalk

Parramatta Escarpment Boardwalk was endorsed and recognised for its excellence in Local Government and Public Works Project by the Institute of Public Works Australasia engineering Excellence Awards in the category of projects greater than $5 million.

Rotary Pride of Workmanship Awards (Rotary Club of Epping) Kate Butler

Nominated by Lord Mayor Donna Davis, Kate received the Rotary Pride of Workmanship Award for her work on the Garden Beds in Epping.

2022 NSW Architecture Awards: Urban Design Parramatta Escarpment Boardwalk

Parramatta Escarpment Boardwalk was awarded the 2022 NSW Architecture Award for Urban Design
