Off-leash Dog Parks

While pets can bring joy, fun and enrichment into the lives of City of Parramatta residents, proper dog ownership requires responsibility. Regular off-leash exercise helps relieve pet boredom and release pent up energy when dogs are confined to small areas. Exercising and walking your dog can aid in the reduction of nuisance behaviour like uncontrolled barking. Off-leash parks allow both dogs and owners alike the ability to mingle and meet in convenient, safe areas.

Responsible dog ownership

Council rangers are actively working with the community to promote the principles of responsible dog ownership whilst using public park facilities. However, it is the responsibility of all park users and dog owners to look after their dogs responsibly. Council has installed clear signage in public parks and provides dog litter bag dispensers and bins at all of our designated off-leash parks.  How to look after your dog responsibly in public:

Do

• Keep your dog on a leash at all times (unless in an off-leash park)
• Maintain effective control of your dog at all times, even when off-leash
• Pick up your dog’s droppings and dispose of it in a rubbish bin
• Be courteous to other people. Public space is there for everybody
• Microchip your dog and register it with council
• Put a collar and name tag on your dog with a phone number
• Consider de-sexing your dog to stop unwanted breeding and behavioural problems

Don’t

• Walk more than four dogs at once
• Let your dog swim at the beach or in any other public bathing area
• Let your dog go within 10 metres of a children’s playground area or food preparation area like a BBQ

In accordance with the Companion Animals Act (NSW), dog owners who fail to comply with leash requirements may be issued a fine of up to $1,100.
