Hip hop star Kobie Dee shines bright at final Ngana Birrung festival

Australia’s biggest emerging First Nations artists are set to align in Western Sydney next month with the return of the Ngana Birrung Festival hosted by the City of Parramatta.

Headlined by hip-hop sensation and Gomeroi artist Kobie Dee, the festival brings a mix of Australia’s finest emerging and established First Nations music artists to the stage for a free, three-night concert series at Campbelltown Arts Centre (Campbelltown City Council) on Thursday 22 May, Sherringham Reserve, Cranebrook (Penrith City Council) on Friday 23 May and Parramatta Town Hall on Tuesday 27 May (City of Parramatta Council).

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the festival promises an unforgettable celebration of culture, music and unity.

“Ngana Birrung is a collaborative music initiative bringing together multiple Sydney councils to create a space for First Nations artists to shine,” Cr Zaiter said.

“While Parramatta is an emerging global city, it is equally important to respect its past and we are proud to host Ngana Birrung to celebrate over 60,000 years of First Nations culture through an exciting music festival.“

As part of National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June), Ngana Birrung – meaning ‘Black Stars’ in Dharug, is a collaborative music initiative bringing together Councils across Western Sydney to create a space for First Nations artists to shine through a range of music, from hip hop to soul and more.

Ngana Birrung is presented by the City of Parramatta in collaboration with Penrith City Council and Campbelltown City Council, and backed by the NSW Government through Create NSW.
