Council is inviting the community to help us name a brand-new park on the Parramatta River foreshore at Wentworth Point.
The naming of a new foreshore park is a rare opportunity for you to have a say in defining a key landmark!
Proposed names
Council has pre-screened (to ensure they meet the NSW Geographical Names Board guidelines) two name options – Bula badhu Park and Sanctuary Park.
- Bula badhu Park (pronounced BOO-la BA-doo) means “Two Waters” in Dharug, the First Nations language spoken by Traditional Owners, the Baramadagal people. It represents the estuary environment, where two waterways meet and mix in the Parramatta River and is a place of significance to the Baramadagal and the broader Dharug community. Council consulted with Traditional Owners, including Baramadagal Elders, to present this researched option.
- Sanctuary Park The name “Sanctuary” evokes a sense of refuge, peace and protection. It suggests a space where individuals and nature alike can find solace and thrive and is a haven within the urban environment of Wentworth Point.
