Pedestrians and cyclists travelling through Rydalmere have a safer connection to Parramatta with the completion of the raised combined pedestrian and cyclist crossing on Brodie Street.
The new crossing marks another milestone along the off-road route connecting Parramatta Park and Melrose Park for pedestrians and cyclists as part of the overall Parramatta to Sydney foreshore link.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Pierre Esber said it will help dozens of commuters get around safely.
“The completion of the raised combined crossing provides a vital link for riders and walkers to get around Rydalmere and head into Parramatta’s CBD via the Parramatta Valley Cycleway,” Cr Esber said.
“Projects like this are crucial to the future of a healthy and active City and we have plenty more in the pipeline so that Parramatta becomes one of the most accessible LGAs whether you’re on foot or bike.
“It also won’t be long until the final stage of separated pedestrian and cyclist paths is completed in Eric Primrose Reserve on the Rydalmere foreshore.”
Cr Esber said Council is focused on providing better pathways for residents to walk and ride across the area.
“Not everyone wants to jump in the car so why not grab the opportunity to get out and enjoy some fresh air amongst our green parks and pathways and take in the surrounds,” Cr Esber said.
“We have plenty more pathways for pedestrians and cyclists planned to connect the north, south and west to the CBD.
“The results of a study into a connection along Kleins Road between Winston Hills, Northmead and Parramatta is currently up for community consultation and I encourage everyone to have a say so we can build a similar project to cater for that part of our LGA.”
