Junction Street Plaza

Junction Street Plaza, opens for parkour and more

We’re thrilled to announce that Junction Street Plaza (Warawara Reserve) Granville, has officially opened Thursday 10 April 2025.

Since early 2022, we’ve been working with the community to create a unique urban park under the M4 at Junction Street. Residents joined several stages of community engagement programs, and young people were involved in the design process.

Ms Donna Davis, MP, and Lord Mayor, Councillor Martin Zaiter, led the official part of the opening celebrations, including plaque unveiling and ribbon cutting, while all guests - including young people from local schools who helped co-design the park - enjoyed parkour demonstrations, workshops, and other activities.

This innovative project was guided by a vision to make more from the M4, transforming an under-utilised area into a brightly coloured, welcoming, recreational and social space much needed in this highly urbanised area of Granville.

While Junction Street Plaza was planned primarily as youth space (12 to 18 years), everyone is welcome.

In addition to the active zone which features parkour, a ball game court, and edges for urban skating, there are social areas with a range of seating options and low-impact recreational spaces with table tennis. There are also a variety of seats set amongst gardens where people can enjoy spectating.

The $1.4M Junction Street Plaza was proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with City of Parramatta.

Design details

Prior to beginning the design process for Junction Street Plaza (Warawara Reserve), City of Parramatta undertook extensive air-quality testing to ensure the area could safely support outdoor recreation. Council also worked closely with Transport for NSW to define design constraints to prevent access to the rail corridor and the M4 infrastructure.

Junction Street Plaza uses large pre-cast concrete pieces to create a parkour course. We consulted with parkour specialist or ‘Traceur’ Sam Carter from Movement & Play to set the features and flow of the course, including bar heights.

The vibrant murals which add fun and colour to the park were created by acclaimed contemporary muralist SYDNEY ARTIST - Nico Nicoson.
