The City of Parramatta has scooped two accolades at the prestigious national 2022 Place Leaders Asia Pacific Awards, hosted for the first time in Parramatta Square.
The annual Place Leaders awards acknowledge cutting edge innovation and excellence for public places, recognising the positive impact of vibrant and inclusive public spaces for the community.
The City of Parramatta was awarded the Place Leadership award for the team’s commitment to excellence in place-making, and the Place Governance gong for the Parramatta Square Place Plan.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Donna Davis said it was an honour to host this year’s national awards celebrating Australia’s leading public places, in the centre of one of the country’s biggest and boldest urban regeneration projects – Parramatta Square.
“Great public spaces are vital for great cities,” Cr Davis said. “The best public places inspire and excite – welcoming our communities and encouraging them to stay a while.
“We are honoured to have our City’s vibrant and creative public spaces recognised at this year’s prestigious national awards. Thank you to our staff and consultants for your continued hard work, ensuring our City earns and retains its position as a leading destination on the national stage.”
This year’s national awards received a record-number of entries for excellence in place-making across categories covering projects, processes, leadership, governance, and digital place-making.
