Street Libraries are beautiful homes for books and gives you access to free books and provide you with the chance to experience the joy of reading while getting out and about in your local area.
Council has had the opportunity to provide Street Libraries throughout each Ward in the Parramatta Council Local Government area. Many Street Libraries are in convenient locations near a park or a shopping centre. Street Libraries encourage books to be recycled and shared by:
- Providing any member of the community access to literature and the joys of reading;
- Providing opportunities for community members to meet, connect and socialise; and
- Enlivening and activating public spaces.
The City of Parramatta Council is working with the community to share books through the installation of Street Libraries in our public domain.
The libraries work on an honesty system with the motto “Take a book; leave a book”.
Street Libraries increase community activation and invites the community to share the joys of reading and create lasting connections inside their community.
There could be one near you now!
