The first of its kind for Council, the new 30KW solar panel canopy on the rooftop of Justice Precinct Car Park provides weather protection to vehicles, reduces radiant heat impact and carbon emissions, and saves on electricity costs.
Funded by the Department of Infrastructure under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI), this initiative is part of Council’s drive to reduce its community and corporate emissions by 60% and achieve 50% renewable electricity consumption by 2038.
The canopy system provides the Council with the opportunity to expand its solar footprint and is estimated to reduce the site’s electricity consumption by more than 40%
The system also provides an opportunity to install EV charging infrastructure in the future.
