Behind the scenes: Armory Restricted

Behind the scenes: Armory Restricted

This tour builds on the Newington 1897 tour by extending the story of Newington Armory from 1921 when the site became a Navy establishment, to the end of its working life in 1999. You’ll enter restricted areas - places normally off-limits to the general public and only made accessible on a guided tour.

Enter the workspaces and laboratories where dangerous materials were handled, learn about the technology and safety procedures employed to keep workers safe, and visit the stunning museum in Building 39.

The natural environment is also integral to the Newington story. On this tour, you’ll visit the Narrawang Wetlands to see how the land has been rehabilitated while also marvelling at the remnant Sydney Turpentine Ironbark trees in the Newington Nature Reserve.

Please note: All tours are subject to a minimum number of participants. If the minimum requirement is not achieved the tour may be cancelled. Notice of cancellations will be given in advance.
