Draining the Parramatta River
Specialist contractors will be carrying out work to the Parramatta River from Friday 1 to Friday 15 November 2024. To complete this work, sections of the Parramatta River from Marsden Weir (near Lennox Bridge) to the Charles Street Weir (near Parramatta Quay) will be drained.
Access to the Parramatta River foreshore will be restricted.
Managing our waterways
Council implements a range of strategic and on-ground actions to maintain and improve local waterways with a focus on:
Stormwater management
To improve water quality through actions such as the construction of pollution control devices, source controls such as education and enforcement, and the review and improvement of strategic and statutory plans.
Floodplain management
To ensure the impacts of flooding on the community are minimised. This includes capital works, planning controls and community education.
Healthy waterways
To enhance and rehabilitate the waterways corridor by implementing actions such as bank stabilisation, revegetation and improvement to fish habitat.
Sustainable water
To reduce, reuse and conserve water.
Maintenance and rehabilitation
City of Parramatta has developed Waterways Maintenance and Rehabilitation Masterplans (WMRM's) to coordinate upkeep and restoration programs for waterways in our local area. The WMRM's aim to maintain the ecological integrity of the systems while increasing access and recognising the need to manage flooding and heritage issues.
