Youth Week 2024

Council is committed to building a city that is welcoming and inclusive of young people and to increase participation of and accountability to young people in our operational activities.

Youth Week in Parramatta

NSW Youth Week is a week-long celebration held in early April each year that is organised by young people, for young people, in communities across the state. This year Youth Week will be 11 - 21 April 2024.

Each year City of Parramatta Council works in partnership with young people, service providers, schools, and businesses. We provide support to local Youth Week projects and initiatives by resourcing the planning, development and evaluation of activities and events.

Young people are encouraged to embrace this year's theme: ‘Express. Empower. Get Loud!’.

If you’re between 12-24 years of age and live in Parramatta, don’t miss your chance to get involved in the great line-up of programs and activities happening across the City.

Information about National Youth Week projects in New South Wales including a list of local community events and activities can be found at the Youth Week website.

  • Tempo

When the orchestra hasn't shown up and the audience is waiting, call the Flying Fruit Fly Circus!

A highly distinguished musician has arrived to conduct their latest symphony, but the orchestra is nowhere to be found. Fortunately, the Fruities are ready to save the day! And create chaos with the concert grand piano…

Directed by Jake Silvestro with an original score by Ania Reynolds, Tempo features an extraordinary ensemble of young performers aged between 12 and 18 who not only possess dazzling circus skills but also play instruments!

Shifting between striking aerial acts and highly choreographed acrobatic chaos, Tempo draws heavily on the traditional knockabout humour of the Flying Fruit Fly Circus – a trademark of the company over many years. Magic, slapstick, juggling, balancing, acrobatics and aerials tumble in, out and around the concert grand piano.

With no dialogue and plenty of gasp-inducing action, Tempo appeals to every age and is suitable, or perhaps essential, for all families.

Zyntaurus Donna-Aroon – 2023 Young Citizen of the Year

“Communities are as varied as the individuals in them. Help build the community that best represents you!”

Young Citizen of the Year recipient

Zyntaurus has been a member of the Baludarri Wetland Bushcare Group since 2011. He first joined the City of Parramatta Bushcare Volunteer Program as a Scout, and since 2020 has taken on the role as Convenor of the group.

Zyntaurus has gone above and beyond removing weeds, planting native local plants, and removing rubbish to transform a defunct landfill site into a viable salt marsh. He inspires younger volunteers like himself to join environmental fields and Bushcare programs to ensure lands and waterways are protected for years to come.

He is also involved with the Parramatta River Catchment Group; assisted with the successful running of the Refugee Alternatives Conference; and in 2022 won the Youth Award for Bushcare. Through his efforts, Zyntaurus has positively benefitted both the local community and environment, showing what can be done to help protect and promote bushlands.
