Get among the action at Parramatta’s World Cup live site

Parramatta will turn into fan central for 31 days across July and August for one of the biggest sports events in Sydney this year – the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Sameer Pandey said the live site in Parramatta Square would bring fans together to cheer on the world’s best teams, watch live-streamed matches on the big screen and put their own football skills to the test.

“We’re turning Parramatta Square into one of the biggest live sites in Sydney for the World Cup and the best spot for families to enjoy all the action and atmosphere for free,” Cr Pandey said.

“Parramatta is a global city which makes it the perfect place for fans to watch this global event.

“Come and cheer on your team or challenge a mate to a one-on-one showdown in the octagonal Panna football cage or our foosball tables.”

Cr Pandey said the live site would be a huge boost for the City, drawing football fans from near and far.

“We look forward to welcoming thousands of people to Parramatta to watch the action with us in Sydney’s biggest loungeroom,” Cr Pandey said.

“Pick yourself up some world-class food from one of the great eateries nearby before settling in to watch an incredible game of football.

“We’ll be screening almost every game of the tournament live including every Matildas game.”

Action at the Parramatta Square live site will kick off with a launch party on Thursday 20 July from 4pm with a line-up of footballers showing off their skills, a DJ and plenty of giveaways, as fans gather to watch New Zealand take on Norway on the big screen, followed by Australia versus Ireland.

The Western Sydney Wanderers will also be hosting activities and giveaways at Parramatta Square throughout the 31 days of competition.

Matildas midfielder Emily van Egmond is the official ambassador for Parramatta’s live site and will be regularly posting about all the excitement on social media throughout the World Cup.

The live site has been brought together in partnership with Parramatta Square, Optus and Western Sydney Wanderers FC.
