A practical student’s guide to getting the most out of Parramatta’s smartest study space

We know that keeping on track with your study isn’t always easy. Especially when you’re juggling classes, deadlines, home life and everything in between. At PHIVE, we’ve created a space that helps you find focus, flow and maybe even enjoy the process.

Whether you’re here for 30 minutes or a full day, you’ll find quiet corners, free Wi-Fi, tech-enabled rooms and a café just downstairs. Plus, the City of Parramatta Library is right here inside PHIVE, giving you easy access to books, digital tools and helpful staff whenever you need support.

Here’s how to make the most of it.

1. Time your Visit

We’re open daily from 9am, and there’s always space. Want to claim your favourite spot? Come by early (9–11am) or in the late afternoon (after 5pm).

Smart Tip

Break your session into blocks: 90 minutes of focused work, then a quick 15-minute refresh. Stretch your legs around Parramatta Square or check out one of our free exhibits or artworks. You’ll get more done without the burnout.

NEW - HSC Study Spaces available at PHIVE

To support students during their HSC exam period, we're adding an extra study area on Level 3 of PHIVE. The space will be set up with tables, chairs, power boards, and easy access to water bottle refills and bathrooms - allowing students extra space to focus.

Times: 3.30 - 8:00pm, Mondays to Fridays (8 September to 6 November)

Where: Level 3, PHIVE, 5 Parramatta Square

2. Choose the Right Space for the Job

Everyone studies differently. That’s why PHIVE offers a variety of spaces for different working styles, whether you’re deep in concentration or meeting up with a group.

City of Parramatta Library at PHIVE (Levels 1–2)

The library is a calm, welcoming zone filled with natural light. It’s ideal for solo study, quiet reading or focused research. You’ll find open desks, comfy corners, access to over 65,000 books and digital resources, plus helpful staff if you need a hand.

  • Working on a group project? Head to our Group Work Tables on level two. These tables are made for chatting, planning and working together.
  • Need solo focus but don’t want to be too far from the action? Our study pods on level one offer calm, private spots for reading, writing or deep work.
  • When it’s time to really concentrate, head straight to the Quiet Study Room on level two. This silent zone helps you tune out everything else. Perfect for exam prep or research sprints.

Ground Floor Tables

If you’re just popping in with a laptop or in between classes, grab a spot on the public tables near the café. These are perfect for lighter sessions or catch-ups.

Did you know?

If you’ve got a side project or creative assignment, PHIVE’s bookable meeting rooms and Podcast Studios are here to help. Easy to book, low-cost, and open to students keen to create.

Smart Tip

Move between spaces to keep your energy up. A change of scenery can help reset your focus and break up longer study sessions.

3. Make the Most of the Tech

Everything you need to stay connected and productive is ready when you are:

  • Free high-speed Wi-Fi throughout
  • Public computers and printing (via the library)
  • USB and power outlets across all levels
  • Friendly staff to help if you get stuck

4. Stay Fuelled, Stay Focused

No need to pack everything, our on-site café, Publique Eatery, is open weekdays and serves coffee, pastries, toasties, salads and more (including gluten-free and vegetarian options). Need a quick fix? There are also vending machines on Level 3 stocked with drinks and snacks to keep you going.

Smart Tip

Snacks and drinks are welcome in the library. Bring your Keep Cup and a few essentials so you don’t have to stop your flow.

5. Build a Weekly Rhythm

The more regularly you use PHIVE, the more it starts to feel like your own space. Set a couple of standing study sessions each week, before class, between shifts or on a quiet weekend morning and let it become part of your routine.

Smart Tip

Pair your study session with a small reward. A coffee break, a browse through the library shelves or a visit to an exhibit or artwork can make studying something you look forward to.

6. Use It for More Than Just Studying

PHIVE is also a place to connect, learn and explore what’s happening in your community. Check out our events calendar for free talks, creative workshops, wellness sessions and exhibitions, open to everyone.
