The garden will be an onsite living landscape at the new Powerhouse Parramatta site.
About
From 2022 PAS has worked in collaboration with Powerhouse to establish a new project called The Weaving Garden. The garden will be an onsite living landscape in 2025 at the new Powerhouse Parramatta site, and will be made up of plants used in weaving practices by multiple cultural groups across the Parramatta area. PAS and Powerhouse have spent two years establishing the Weaving Garden Collective and Collective Lead through an EOI process and researching, developing and holding in-depth community consultation to plan the delivery of this project.
Dr Virginia Keft, a First Nations Producer, Program Coordinator, Curator and researcher was appointed the Weaving Garden Collective Lead and worked with PAS and Powerhouse to establish the collective members: Paris Taia, Angela Paikea, Tarni Eastwood and Jayne Christian. The Weaving Garden Collective meets as a group and with PAS and Powerhouse representatives throughout the year to design the garden’s contents, consult with local communities and develop the purpose of the garden as a public and programmed cultural space in 2025 and beyond.
